While we were in Kenya, we went on a safari with Enaiduara Big Step Safaris, which is run by the husband and wife team of David Ole Nkuito and Merry Purcell. David is Maasai and Merry is Australian. Enaidura is a Maasai word that means migrate. Merry did the hotel bookings and safari itinerary for us while David was the driver and guide. Depending on what your budget is, Merry picks the quality of hotels you stay at, arranges the bookings there, and plans out which safari locations in Kenya you will visit. David does all the driving and is the guide. He is also very knowledgable about the wildlife and is able to communicate with almost everyone at the various stops on a safari. When you travel Kenya this is important because depending on which part of the country you’re in, a different language may be spoken. David can speak English, Swahili, and Maa,the language of the Maasai.

Our safari was three stages:

  • Ol Pejeta Conservancy near Mount Kenya
  • Lake Naivasha
  • Maasai Mara National Reserve

We loved the Maasai Mara and were glad Merry planned the best for last. To describe the Mara is difficult. Words seem to fall short of what you see there. Expansive and breathtaking are words I’d use to try to describe the landscape. Wildlife sightings in the Maasai Mara are plentiful and every game drive will produce memorable photo opportunities. You can also book a hot air balloon ride in the Mara that is an addition to the safari package, which we did. If you have a bucket list be sure to add a hot air balloon ride in the Maasai Mara to that list! More on the balloon ride in later posts.

Everything on our safari went off without a hitch so if you’re in Kenya and want a personal touch when planning a safari, definitely contact Enaidura Big Step Safaris for a safari package.
