Two Digital Gypsies Rating – 2.5 Stars

Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort is located at the southern shore of Lake Naivasha in Kenya at an elevation of 6200’ above sea level.

The resort has around 80 rooms clustered in 21 cottages that reminded us of hobbit houses. When we arrived the staff gave us warm towels to wipe off the road grime and we were given juice to drink as we checked in.

Our room was large and spacious but had a dated 1970’s feel to it. The room had a small patio that looked onto the expansive grounds but the patio chairs were so uncomfortable that we couldn’t sit in them for very long.

We did enjoy walking around the spacious, lush grounds at the resort but that was only possible during the daylight hours because of the hippo issue. At nighttime if we wanted to leave the room we had to call for an escort to walk with us wherever we wanted to go. Also walking out the pier to view the lake wasn’t allowed without an escort.

Food at the restaurant was mostly buffet style and what I would rate as fair to good. There is a bar where you can get a drink and a pool if you want to take a dip. At the front entrance there were a number of Vervet and Colobus monkeys running around and it was fun to spend some time watching them. Although we enjoyed our stay at the Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort, it wasn’t the nicest accommodations we stayed at during our safari in Kenya.
