Fillet of Salmon at Prezzo

Two Digital Gypsies Rating – 3.5 Stars

For our 20th wedding anniversary we wanted to eat out somewhere nice. At our current location in Bury St Edmunds in the UK there are more than a hundred restaurants to choose from, so I went on to the Trip Advisor website and browsed the rankings for restaurants here. We chose Prezzo which ranked #22 on the list.

We made reservations online for our meal and when we arrived the hostess was friendly and courteous. I didn’t like the table location which was small and in a waiter/waitress traffic area. I wish I would have pushed for a padded booth.

For starters we ordered the Bread Board to Share at £5.25 which had:

  • Tomato & pesto bread
  • Mozzarella & garlic bread
  • Ciabatta & rosemary flatbread with balsamic vinegar & extra virgin olive oil

For the main dishes my wife Barbara ordered Penne Con Salmone at £10.95, it included a salmon fillet, broccoli, and red chili in a pesto sauce. I had the Fillet of Salmon in saffron sauce at £13.95 which included new potatoes and green beans.

The Bread Board starter and main courses were very good and filling to the point where we passed on having a dessert. The service was somewhat spotty and we had to flag down a waitress to get some water, and then again at the end of the meal after waiting another 20 minutes we had to flag her down again to get our bill. We’re pretty easy-going diners so for us to flag down a waitress is a big deal. The restaurant wasn’t full when we were eating so I can’t explain the spotty service other than to say it’s a trend we have noticed here in England.

With wine, the starter, our main courses, and a tip the final bill came to £66 with tip which is $105 US. I was just thinking that we could eat at the Olive Garden in the States which is somewhat similar to Prezzo in selections available for half what we paid on this night. Plus I think I like the food at Olive Garden better.
